Wednesday, August 08, 2007
While I do promise to do a write up of my Adult
Alumni Space Academy (mis)adventure, I wanted to
share with you the best story I've heard in some
time!
My teammate Sarah recants the tale of how she got Kelly Preston to sign her SpaceCamp poster!
And pics of the poster...

A Smile as big as the Moon coming as "Einstein's Children"
Sunday, October 08, 2006
After
years of being a possibility, the book that Jerry
Bruckheimer's production company optioned looks like
it's finally going to be made into a major motion
picture!
Details are scant for now.
I very much hope that it's still going to be at Space Camp and that they won't change it to some generic Science camp for the movie.

SpaceCamp Retrospective
Sunday, March 12, 2006
The
Huntsville Times published a
short retrospective
on
SpaceCamp and what it meant to the actual Space
Camp.
And, of course, young people have never stopped watching "SpaceCamp."
"I don't think I've ever met a kid who hasn't seen that movie," Buckbee said.

HabFiles Update -- Interview with Zach Bergstrom...
Thursday, January 20, 2005
...Well,
Tom Skirritt, to be more precise. But, hey, he was in
the movie,
SpaceCamp,
which we've all come to love...and hate...and love!
In this August 1986 issue of Starlog magazine, Tom Skirritt is interviewed about his part in SpaceCamp:
"Yeah, it wasn't a real exciting part, but there are many reasons for doing a movie. Certainly, you have to make a living," he remarks. "There are three things I look at--the part, the movie and the money. In this case, I liked the movie as a whole, and the money was good."
You just can't get that sort of candor from actors about their films these days!
It's a reasonably funny read. Enjoy!

SpaceCamp to be Released on DVD Again
Saturday, January 24, 2004
Also, it appears as if the full frame version of the film that was present on the Anchor Bay release will not be present.
Still, this is good news for anyone who was thinking of overpaying for one on eBay.
The DVD can be preordered at DeepDiscountDVD for only $9.12 including shipping! Or, if you'd rather order it from Amazon, you can get it for $12.71.
Technical Problems with the SpaceCamp DVD
Tuesday, April 15, 2003
Some
users in the
HabForum mention
that they were having some troubles with their
copies of AnchorBay's now discontinued SpaceCamp
DVD.
They are aware of the problems and you can send back the disc to get it replaced if you'd like.
Vist http://www.anchorbayentertainment.com/about/faq.asp#Contact for more information including how and where to send in your defective disc to get a new copy.

SpaceCamp DVD is now Out of Print
Thursday, March 20, 2003
I've
been notified by Anchor Bay Entertainment (the
distributors of the recent SpaceCamp DVD) that their
rights to publish the title have expired.
My advice is to either go search high-and-low for a copy at your favorite DVD retailer or win the contest currently on here (see further down the page for details)!
Good luck either way!

Not Forgotten in the Mainstream...

Happy
New Year Everyone!
I was flipping through the January 2002 issue of Premiere magazine that had been sitting around my room for at least a month where I was surprised to come across the following blub:
Under the heading, "The Show Must Go On..." the blurb mentions some movies that have had their release dates postponed in light of the September 11th tragedy and deatils other moives that have had to have their movies postponed due to tradegy.
SpaceCamp was one of the films listed with the following mentioned about it:
This action-adventure story, about a group of plucky teens who enroll in space camp and actually end up in orbit, was supposed to be released in early 1986. But on January 28 of that year, the shuttle Challenger exploded while the whole world was watching, taking the lives of the seven American astronauts onboard. The film's release was postponed for five months, but the movie contains a scene simulating a malfunction eerily similar to that which caused the real-life tragedy.
As a result, the movie failed horribly at the box office, taking in a paltry 9.7 million dollars.

SpaceCamp to be released on DVD!
Friday, August 03, 2001
If
you're like me, you love movies and you've completely
scorned VHS in favor of DVD.
If that's the case then you might also be disappointed by the fact that some of the more obscure films, such as our beloved SpaceCamp cannot be found on DVD.
Well, with regard to SpaceCamp the movie, all of that is about to change!
On September 25th, Anchor Bay Entertainment will be releasing Space Camp on DVD!!!
Details are sketchy, but it appears as if the disc will contain both the full frame version as well as the widescreen version. I have never seen SpaceCamp available in widescreen before and, to my knowledge, neither has anyone who didn't see it when it was in theaters! The best part is, the widescreen version is reported to be Anamorphic!
Other than a trailer though, the disc seems to be devoid of any extras...*sigh*
Still, the fact that this is going to be released on DVD is a small miracle...At the very least, it makes Anchor Bay Entertainment my Hero of the Day™.
Excited about the release? Post your thoughts/opions/etc. in the SpaceCamp Movie Forum!
