$649 Special is Almost Gone

Just a friendly reminder to reserve your session for Space Camp in 2004 before time runs out on Space Camp‘s amazing “Early Bird Special.”

Even if you’re not sure which week you want to go, register now and choose later! You can pick the session week you attend up to four weeks before you attend or by March 1, 2004 (whichever is sooner).

Hurry! You need to register before the New Year begins! For with the beginning of the New Year comes the end of this wonderfully fantastic deal!

Can this be Legal?

Paul Frank SC Logo Rip-Off T-ShirtI’ve recently come across a T-Shirt design that, unless in some way licensed from Space Camp, just can’t possibly be legal!

Granted, I am not a lawyer, but it just seems to look too much like the Space Camp logo to be a coincidence (3 stars and everything).

But, make of it what you will (or buy one yourself if you’re so inclined, I suppose).

If anyone has any additional info about the product’s legal status (or anything else of interest), please do send it my way.

Early Bird Special

Space Camp is currently running a fantastic promotion on the price of tuition!

If you book a camp session before the end of this year for a weeklong camp starting before August 21, 2004, you’ll only pay $649 for tuition!

This is good for Space Camp, Academy, and Aviation Challenge programs.

Further details can be found here.

And now I offer the following advice:

Parents: I’d say you’re out of excuses! Send your child(ren) now!

Kids: Go show your parents this offer now!

USSRC: I’d be really, really happy if you would make this good for Adult ASA as well! Think of it as good will towards the great amount of money I’ll no doubt be spending to send my future progeny to your fine camps!

ISC 2003 Kicks off Today

International Space Camp 2003 officially starts today!

Congratulations to those selected to represent your respective countries at ISC this week. And remember, it’s not just an honor, it’s an adventure!

I hope everyone enjoys their trip to Space Camp as well as the United States of America.

Consultants to Space Camp: Boost Visibility

That was the message handed out on Monday by the consultants hired by the US Space & Rocket Center to figure out why camp attendance has declined steadily over the past few years.

For more than five hours Monday, the bosses of U.S. Space Camp heard what others think about their business. They listened as both in-house managers and hired consultants presented results and recommendations from recent surveys aimed at finding out how to reverse a decade-long decline in camp attendance.

The bottom line: Spend more money to spread the word about Space Camp and what it can mean to children.

The Huntsville Times has a wonderful piece of coverage on the results of the meetings as well as a rundown of the information the survey generated.

Read the whole thing here.

Personally, from the standpoint of a camper, I think the outcome is somewhat a mixed bag. On one hand, the USSRC will probably spend a great deal more on advertising in an effort to get word out about Space Camp (a long overdue measure). On the other hand, if they blindly follow what they think the results say, we’ll see a greater emphasis on shorter duration programs.

I’ll guess we’ll just have to sit back, watch, and hope for the best!

Space Camp to Examine Declining Attendance, Part 2

A big step in the effort to figure out how Space Camp officials can boost attendance and profits happened on Monday, as was pointed out by this (brief) story posted today at local Huntsville news station, WAFF.

The article:

Officials at the Space and Rocket Center are working together to come up with ideas on how to increase enrollment at the Center’s Space Camps.

Some space camp programs have seen a 1% decrease in enrollment over the last two years, but that’s enough to concern leaders.

They spent Monday learning about other successfull camps in the country. Marketing ideas were also discussed, hoping to make the difference.
